ISCRM 2008

Congratulations go to SMI Brett Cave, County Shooting Officer and the cadets who went to Bisley for the annual ISCRM Shooting Competitions over the weekend 12th & 13th July. Seen in some of the photos, is Colonel Mike Vince, Commandant Buckinghamshire ACF who, many years ago was a Detachment Commander with Berkshire ACF, namely 9 Platoon Caversham!! Colonel Vince actually taught a very young Brett Cave who in turn taught SSI Dave Hobbs who has followed on and taught CSM Boyd and LCpl Hobbs - all at the Caversham Detachment.

4 Platoon Ascot in Carnival Mood

On Saturday 21st June, 4 Platoon held a Recruitment Day at the Licensed Victuallers School Carnival. The day started out with the cadets assisting, or attempting to put up gazebo's for the other stalls. With the first command task of the day over with they then went on to erect a 12 x 12 Tent and 45 hilarious minutes later - our Recruitment Stand was up and running. Once the Carnival was well under way, the cadets successfully infiltrated the school's Tug of War Teams, we don't think anyone noticed, mind you we're not sure if they did more harm than good!!

B Company Weekend

There were a lot of happy, smiley faces from B Company cadets during their recent training weekend held 15th and 16th June. Training aspects covered were an 8km walk around the Hampshire countryside where they enjoyed the company of several new found friends, a Junior NCO Cadre and fieldcraft training. The weather was good and everyone went home at the end of the weekend feeling happy but tired.

Although the sun did shine during Saturday and Sunday, the rain and wind made its appearance without fail on Monday morning!!

The Commandant, Colonel Peter Webb, visited on Sunday and at a rapidly arranged Company Parade, presented Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh's Awards to several cadets plus two Gold Awards to CSgt Ben Allen of 1 Platoon Windsor and CSgt Tony Shergill of 3 Platoon Slough.

Ascot visit Ireland

Cadets and adults from 4 Platoon Ascot travelled over to Northern Ireland to take part in the Irish Guards ACF Military Competition over the weekend 16th to 18th May which was open to all Irish Guards badged detachments in the United Kingdom. Accommodation was at the very new Cadet Training Centre in Magilligan and whilst the accompanying adults were discouraged from going around with their teams which unfortunately means there are no photos of the competition, they were taken on a day's sightseeing trip. One of the attractions was a rather rickety rope bridge at Carrick-a-Rede, but due to Motor Cycle Racing and extra traffic in the area there wasn't time to visit the Causeway or the Whiskey Distillery!

All in all, it was an excellent weekend and both cadets and adults enjoyed themselves. 4 Platoon are now very much looking forward to the chance to go again next year and... winning!!
